Easter Sunday

Christ is risen.

Christ is risen indeed.

But on my Easter Sunday it's snowing and I'm working. In part I'm not averse to working on Sundays. At this point in my life it's painful to go to worship services. I still feel called to work in the ministry and in my love for sermons and worship. Yet since I have been out of the pulpit it is painful to worship in the congregation. Still, Easter Sunday and Passion Week are the most important events of the church year and I miss them even as I know it would hurt to go.

Christ is risen indeed. But the transformation of each Christian is still ongoing. I will continue to pray and work for that new earth that is coming into being.

Presidents Day

I'm showing my age when I say I remember having separate holidays for Lincoln and Washington. And in many ways I would like to still keep them. In very different ways they led the country I love through difficult times and transitions. It just seems a shame to lump their gifts to this country.

Belatedly entered for Veteran's Day

God of the ages, we thank you for all who have served in the armed forces ofthis country. Comfort those who grieve for those who gave the last fullmeasure of devotion. Strengthen those who bear physical, emotional, andspiritual wounds. Stand with those who provide care to them. Move us toreach out to sisters and brothers. Guide us to work for the day when no oneneeds to serve in the military. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
