I've always thought that abstinence education ignores the reality of sexual activity. It seems I'm right. I'm part of a minority that has not had premarital sex. But somewhere around 90 - 95% of the population has had premarital sex according to a recent survey. It's perfectly true that one doesn't catch sexually transmitted diseases if one is abstinent - though some sexual practices that don't actually involve penetration can transmit diseases - but irrelevant since whatever the scare tactics used people just plain end up having sex with each other.
