Science and toilets

Science speaks to the usual things. From Pure Pedantry comes a link to an article about game theory and toilet seats. It seems there is an actual way of determining whether the seat should be up or down. I suspect it doesn't factor in some parts of the equation as in a room mate that I once had who left the toilet seat as it had been before he got there whether he was standing or sitting and had bad aim. After living with that situation I leave the toilet seat up and will probably continue to do so. Knowing the urine is quite sterile doesn't mean that I enjoy the feeling that I've just found some on the seat.

Actually, the sterility of urine is quite deceptive. If it has been sitting more than 5 to 15 minutes (depends on the temperature) it is no longer sterile (unless your bathroom is kept quite cold). When I was learning to grow fungus (we won't talk about the type of fungus I've grown)I discovered that the reason you start with a sterile growth medium, is that you want no competition.

Personaly, I get pissy when the toilet seat is left up. I am a guy, but I always sit to pee, unless there is a urinal available. I get pissy when the roomies leave it up, because they usualy don't. I don't always pay attention, especialy when I get up in the middle of the night to pee. If it is up, my tush hits water and I get annoyed.
