There are books without end on whether marriage is limited to different gendered couples or not. Historically it is clear that there are a wide variety of marriage patterns from serial monogamy to polygamy (Israel from Scripture) as well as variations on gender (Will Roscoe has several booksthat have more than two genders for marital partners.
