I keep reading the Anita Blake novels in part because of the fantasy world, in part because of the smash and burn plots and mostly because of the character development. We keep finding more about the past and how it affects the present, we see the character grow and learn. And my interest continues to be held.
I've got the series up to date and am skimming through to see what happens.
P.S. - later addition - I do love the use of a child's european mythic character as one of the main elements of the plot.
